Overview
Defense and security remain a primary focus of international governments engaged in the fight against terrorism. At home and abroad, threats from improvised explosive devices (IED), chemical agent weapons, and aircraft attacks by man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) underscore the challenges facing governments and the general public. Expanded military operations in hostile environments continue to place increasing demands on force protection, such as aircraft survivability and advanced sensor technologies.
Daylight Solutions is committed to delivering advanced technologies for Defense and security applications. The company’s patented External Cavity Quantum Cascade Laser (ECqcL™) technology enables compact, portable sensors for use in detecting chemical agents and explosives. These miniaturized sensors capture complete “fingerprints” of all surrounding molecules, which are then analyzed in real time to determine the presence of a threat. Daylight Solutions' sensor technology is capable of both in-place and standoff detection methodologies.
The company’s ECqcL™ platform is also applicable to IRCM applications. Daylight Solutions’ high-power JammIR™ series of lasers were designed specifically for IRCM applications. The systems integrate multiple high-power quantum cascade sources with patented external cavities, resulting in small, light-weight, and diffraction-limited beam quality. The systems are based on an open architecture approach, allowing for integration with various turret designs.
Smaller, battery operated thermal laser pointers are also available for illuminating and identifying targets that can be viewed with thermal camera technologies. Applications include aiming, for rifles equipped with thermal imaging scopes.
Daylight Solutions’ mid-infrared (mid-IR) laser sources and sensors are based on Quantum Cascade technology, which the company has advanced and commercialized. Daylight Solutions’ QC-based systems are extremely small, lightweight, and reliable, with 1,000 to 10,000 hours of continuous field operation.
Daylight Solutions provides the most advanced solutions for all defense applications in the mid- to long-IR.
